The national day for children, Crinniú na nÓg, took place on Saturday June 11th 2022.
The day is coordinated in County Carlow by the Carlow Arts Office. For the first time since 2019 the Museum hosted the very popular ‘The Big Dig’ by the Irish School of Archaeology. The workshop gives young people the chance to experience what it is like to be an archaeologist by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking house. As they dug through the site, participants unearthed Viking treasures and artefacts. They also learnt about the lives of our Viking ancestors as history is brought to life by qualified archaeologists. The event ran throughout the day with sessions beginning on the hour.
