We were delighted to attend a Belgium Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (BLCC) event recently, jointly hosted by Her Excellency Karen Van Vlierberge, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, and Her Excellency Florence Ensch, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in the Belgium Embassy in Dublin.
The event was attended by Robert Troy TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation, who spoke on the importance of international relations.
Her Excellency Florence Ensch is the very first resident Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Ireland. Her Excellency Karen Van Vlierberge was appointed in October 2021. We wish both of them well during their terms here and hope to see both in Carlow at some stage.
County Carlow has a number of important links to both countries including the building of the first sugar factory in Carlow by Belgium company, Lippens, and St Willibrord, the Patron Saint of Luxembourg, spent twelve years in County Carlow being trained and formed for his important mission to the low countries.
Pictured at the event are (L to R) Mr. Ivan Healy, Honorary Consul General to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Her Excellency Florence Ensch, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and Dermot Mulligan, Museum Curator, Carlow County Museum.
